People, I am just wondering if seeings how our everyday rights are vanishing before our very eyes because of our national security and protection if there is a possibilty in our future of martial law imposed on our own citizens and if so will the military and government try to take our weapons? Think about the way we are constantly being restricted with new laws and less privacy-all in the name of national security!!!!!!!

Why else would he have pushed for the Patriot Acts and the military commissions act. All of these laws are designed for one purpose: contain the American people until the objectives they seek worldwide are complete.

They know the American Public will only tolerate so much unnecessary bloodshed in their name. And they know it will take much longer to destroy the populations that stand in the way of their global corporate empire.

The military is already in control of our police. They have APCs, Swat teams, Automatic Weapons, etc Many local departments have been receiving training from the military, and every one says it is for gang warfare or the war on drugs.

The National Guard can and will do as they are ordered. They responded to Katrina with M-16's in hand and at the ready until a general ordered them to shoulder their weapons and reminded them they were in the US.

Remember all targets look the same through a thermal or night vision lens. They will carry out their orders with all of the mindless devotion that we pride our Armed Forces on.

Do a search for Depleted Uranium Weapons to read an equally frightening issue.

This question presupposes Supreme Executive Power.

This does not exist under our form of government.

Our rights are vanishing because 2/3's of us don't have time to actually Get informed and respond to issues.

The men who set up this Government, were wise and thoughtful men. The ones we seem to elect in recent years........not so much.

I blame a lot on Fox News.

When McCain folded on Habeous Corpus, I knew he had been offically paid for; sort of Knighted. He would BE the republican front runner for 08. And he sold out the Country, and the Military to get this. I won't let this be unmet.

Stop following the talking points and start following the polls.

Few still support the Shrub.

The military is taking a good beating from the ordinary citizens of Iraq.

After that, the military wil not hav the braveness to fight against americans. so, even if bush declares martial law, the military will not come.

For the ones saying it won't happen let me remind you of Hurricane Katrina. It has already happened and that was only a natural disaster not a "T" attack. Now the President has more powers and for you all who support Bush you better realize that if Obama or Hillary wins they will have this power also. So your "team" will not have home court advantage. This isn't a left/right basketball game people good lord.

Within the next year at most count on it Bush will never give up his dreams of a religious dictatorship !

roster he has that state of emergency his war on terrorism remember and he can use the patriot act to compel cooperation from media and the general public he can put you away without proof and never even admit he has you because you are a threat !And there are they stories that DC has been looking for sites for " detention camps " any of this sound vaguely familiar ? like maybe Hitler ?

Since when has law enforcement been there to protect anyone like us it is only there to enforce the laws that they write all cops have been brainwashed with the attitude that it is them or us they are mercenary solders that are filtered and receive special treatment it really does concern me that we have so many of them it should concern anyone who has the brains that their version of god gave a carrot because Bush's version of god will terrify any sane man !

He wouldn't dare.

Bush is a coward at his very heart. Imposing martial law, whether justified or not is a bold move and would be the only thing he is remembered for.
There are very few things Americans will allow martial law for and when it is lifted they will strike back politically for imposing it without a good reason. They would demand his resignation.

not that easy, there would at best need to be a 'state of emergency", in which the president was granted executive power, this would allow him the absolute right of veto and his word alone would be law. this is for obvious reasons not that simple in a country like the USA which has a well developed democracy, a sophisticated set of checks and balances between federal and state legislature, Senate , congress and the house of representatives, even then his executive powers are only valid in a two thirds majority ballot. let's face it America despite all things is no banana republic.

The likelihood of him just randomly going "Oh, I feel like declaring martial law in South Dakota just because I feel like it and I'm bored" is very low. I mean people mock his IQ level, but he's not actually stupid... at least not THAT stupid. If say some county or area were to be very unruly and to actually use their guns or explosives etc. and try to revolt in some stupid way I think he might declare martial law. But that would actually be justified, because the people are the ones who brought it on themselves. He won't go as far as declaring martial law just to protect America unless something very drastic happens (ex. biological attack or nuclear attack afterwards which people go rioting and killing etc.)
