Costco has a deal with American Express. Costco has its own American Express credit card as well on americanexpress.com.
That why Visa and MC are not taken.

I believe it's because Costco has some kind of deal with American Express. I do think that they accept Visa debit cards, though.

couple of reasons - they have a partnership with Amex and credit cards companies charge a service fee to the stores for every transaction made. That's why some stores/restaurants run on a cash-only basis, or if they do take credit cards, they'll typically go with MC or Visa (Amex and Discover card charge retailers more).

I saw a commercial that says sam's club does now, if it takes enough of costco's business away you bet they will jump on the credit wagon.
Mcdonald's was the first to accept credit too, now all of the fast food places do.

I asked them last time I was there and they said because Visa and MC charge to much for user fee's and they would have to pass the cost onto us. Makes sense, but i think it has more to do with their deal with american express...

Because it cuts into their profits every time one is used. They're smart. Keep prices LOW.
