It could have been Wilson because the Russian spy insinuated that the girlfriend was a Russian agent and that she would become a spy in the household.
It could have been the Russians because she was no longer of value to them.

She was of no more use to the russians as a spy because she was going to marry Wilson Jr. so it could have been the Russians, She knew too much because Wilson Jr. Had told her things she should never have known so it could have been the CIA or even Wilson himself Sr. not Jr. because it was either her and the son or just her.

I was going to ask the same question.
It seemed like the russian agent was behind it since the father wouldn't roll over.
but i thought they came to an agreement where it wasn't necessary.
