Any liquid or gel based makeup should be discarded after 6 months. This is due to bacteria which will begin to build up over time. This includes lip balm.

it really depends on how you care for your lip balm and what you do with it. if you lose your lip balm then you have to buy some more. if you let somebody borrow your lip balm you probably won't be getting it back and if u accidentally miss place it u probably be-able to find. so there are a couple of things that could happen to your lip balm. so this mean you don't know how long. the average person i know that kept lip balm was 1 year because they use a little bit everyday.

I can never keep it for a month because I end up losing it or using it all haha since it's cold I rather have my lips moisturized instead of chapped haha

if on lips then for more than an hour
better apply at nite and sleep, wash in the morning with warm water.
if u r asking to keet the lip blam tube then see the expiry date on it.

Most kinds are a petroleum base, just like petroleum jelly. So they will stay good forever as long as it doesn't dry out

After your sick with a cold or had a cold sore THROW IT OUT and start anew!
Check the expiration date.
When you drop it with the cap off, throw it away pronto.
Don't share make-up items with people who had styes, or cold sores or is sick with runny nose.
