At the very least, 6 months. My pond fish are not fed for six months of the year, from the end of September to round about April depending on the outside temperature. During this period I have no need to approach the pond. When I do, in the spring the fish come up to be fed. They only respond to me, therefore they remember.

Nobody knows what it is. People say 5 seconds but that is now proven to be false. My fish have learned who I am, they beg for food when I am near the tank but not for anyone else. They know I feed them. Even when I go on vacation for 2 weeks they remember me when i get home. So they have a pretty good memory.

I would say not long...BUT..they always know what side of the tank that they are fed from and about what time...so I really don't know...maybe different spans for different types of memory.

There are goldfish who are trianed to do tricks. Also my goldfish eat out of my hands, a many goldfish do. So dependant on what they are remebering, it can probably be quite long. Since they do remeber who brings their food.
