Americans track Angelina, keep an eye on Paris, and can't wait to see what happens next with Nicole and Lindsey. What sparks this urge to follow "famous" people? What are your thoughts?

I think it's because it is something that us "common people" will never experience...and there's a lot of curiousity in what we don't know about.
I have a feeling that if we all lived celebrity lifestyles, then we probably wouldn't like it so much...seems like a lot of celebs are troubled individuals (the ace reason why I never actually want to meet Johnny Depp...I prefer to think of him in my own way, and not the fact that he probably isn't terribly personable or anything).
Plus, in today's society, we love seeing pretty people doing stupid things. Goodness knows we see enough of that. Paris sure does fall down a lot, and Lindsay Lohan says she's too mature to go to college. A lot of people love these girls, but I bet secretly we would all love to see them fail.

For one, it's forced down our throats. You turn on the TV you see it. You stand in line at the grocery store there are a plethera of gossip mags staring you in the face. You can get sucked into it easily.

Also I think we get intrigued because of the life style they live. The money, the parties, the relationships, the fashion, the houses, the cars, etc. Average people can't even wrap their minds around what it would be like in reality to experience the fame and fortune. It seems like a dream sometimes.

I'm American, and I don't care about Angelina, can't stand Paris H.,and Nicole and Lindsey are exactly like Paris,so I can't stand them either. They are just people. As people I like some of them, and I dislike some of them. You really shouldn't generalize.I don't appreciate you clumping me together with everybody.

I'm an American and I think celebrities suck.
Methinks too many people have too much idle time on their hands. However, these people are usually too busy watching their celebrities to get in my way, so I'll give them a break and let them run their own lives as they wish.

I think its mainly the welfare mothers who sit on the couch and watch tv 12 hours a day that are all into the tabloids. Who has that much time to spend on even their own lives?

Perhaps it gives the viewers a chance to get away from their "real life" drama...kinda like a sense of escapism i guess ... It's about wanting what u can't have...

i don't pay attention to the goings on of celebrities. the sad thing is young girls today are so into starving themselves that they think it is the way to live. i am waiting for things to get normal again.

Cause they have what we want. They are our discount
entertainment. And some people have boring lives. So,
they live vicariously through "stars", so peeps get to be
reminded what they don't have...lol
