"The Bush White House is a classic study in the arrogance of power. Deluding itself into believing that it was capable of enforcing its will unilaterally, America's axis of incompetence - Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld - blundered into Iraq."

Q: The writing was already on the wall and Bush, INCREDIBLY, was elected a SECOND time...why did voters follow him so blindly and permit him/his administration so much power?

To Jrock I would like to add that the Germans voted Hitler in as Chancellor in 1933 and Czechoslovakia freely voted the Communist Party into power in 1947...history tells us that they came to regret that!

To "lotstodo":
You wrote: "We are fighting a war against an ideology that is in sharp contrast to our own." Then, you mention the Axis powers.

America at that time was in "Isolationist Mode", don't forget. It took until late 1941 for America to become involved in an obvious way (the the Roosevelt Administration had been covertly involved well beforehand). This, then, negates your argument that America went to war based on "ideological issues". It took the attack on Pearl Harbour to do it...
Jews, gypsies, intellectuals... and untold other "undesirables" had been systematically worked to death and otherwise murdered in German-run "camps" since 1933!

Lotstodo, check your history books: the "Austrian-Hungarian" Empire (Austro-Hungarian) had long-since ceased to exist. That fundamental error alone would lead me to believe that you slept right through "20th Century World History 101"!

The vote boiled down between him and Kerry. At the time, people were afraid that John Kerry could not handle taking over in this administration to handle the war. The White House created a PR scheme of our men and women in the military who carry great respect for the president. When voters saw all the interviews of military personnel who were in support of our president, it swayed their vote. If it were not for the war in Iraq, I do believe the vote would have been different. I believe he got the fear vote not so can we say that they were not only blind but also fearful of making a worse mistake by voting in an unknown.

This question is extremely vast and can have many answers, I will give one.

Whether we like it or not we are fighting a world war. This is for multiple reasons that have been growing rapidly for the past forty years. We are fighting a war against an ideology that is in sharp contrast to our own. We have done this twice in the past 70 years. First, against fascist dictatorships seen in the axis powers of WWII (Germany, Italy, Japan). Next, against extreme socialism (communism), (Soviet Union, Cuba, Vietnam). We won both of those wars. Now, the belief is that Iraq can be our next Germany and probably more importantly Japan. Two countries we annihilated in WWII and spent countless years and resources rebuilding. These two countries are great success stories of democracy and capitalism, and they both did it in different ways. I share the belief that these countries are models for the world as is America, and perhaps one day so will Iraq.

This alone may be why the majority of the country follows him and shares his beliefs. These are not unprecedented ideas if one studies American politics in the 20th Century just a little.

Response to "selma:
Do you believe for a minute that we did not want a part of WWII before Pearl Harbor? We wanted any reason to again fight this ideology as we did only 30 years previous in WWI. Yes Pearl Harbor did ultimatley send us into the war, but was not the only reason. Who did we fight during the war? The answer is Germany, Italy, Japan, Austrian-Hungarian Empire, and anybody else that aligned with the enemies. So why is it so wong now that we attack anybody but Al Queda? Many contries and governments align themselves with their belifs or ideologies. If we only took out Japan would the war have been won? My thinking is no. We must take on the threat regardless of international boundries.

Because we have a population of overworked, overstressed people with little leisure time, we started picking one News show of choice, and only one. A lot picked a particular one because during the day it had happy news all the time. We liked that.

You can not gather your news from once source and expect it to be unbiased. Not possible. Fox News is so totally NeoCon it is laughable. O Riley should be jailed for War Crimes. The man is a complete idiot, and yet he has many fans.

I don't know how to answer your question beyond saying; "We the Sheeple..........."

And..................Big bucks and Swift Boats and likely voter fraud.

And a partridge in a pear tree.

Merry Christmas/Happy Holiday's

It appears you are like so many out there and only believe what you want to believe and close your mind to the truth.

There are many problems around the worlk and different nations aoproach them with different views.

Actually most of the nations just sit back and let things get to the point where there is no choice. Just look what happened during the first half of last century. Now just think about wy there was much less problems in the second harf.

I bet you can't even figure that one out. so go ahead and live with your head in the sand.

I think Bush won because of same sex marriage. Most people are weary of topics such as these. Remember on the year of the election same sex marriage was legalized in Massachusetts. And with kerry being from that state and clearly stating his gay friendly positions. It's not hard to see why he lost the election even though most people were starting to realize the truth of the iraq war. Simply put many democrats are to far to the left to win the presidency and that's why Bush won in that year.

properly i do no longer individually evaluate myself a liberal or a conservative, yet i can surely say that i do no longer care lots fo Bush. If america wanted to question clinton for finding out to purchase a BJ and having an affair, because of the fact it as immoral, then how can mendacity to an entire us of a to earnings himself no longer be an impeachable offense? Please do no longer take a seat and say that anybody who has an opinion is ignorant, or lacks adulthood, because of the fact it somewhat is basically no longer the case. whilst the entire center type is wiped out, and there is not any center floor a brilliant form of those "conservative" human beings will in all threat be feeling slightly greater liberal whilst they could beg money from family participants, or stand in strains to get nutrients for themselves or their infants. we surely could look in any respect factors of the difficulty and understand that basically about all of government is out for themselves, no remember what lable they staple to their heads, be it conservative or liberal. If that is not sturdy for them, then that is not sturdy for anybody! We carry them into workplace we could constantly somewhat start up annoying greater from them

First of all, who are you quoting?

Second, the voters did not give Bush any more power than any President in American history ever has had. You don't like the fact that he was re-elected? Tough --- for you.

The voters were not blind. They wanted Bush to appoint Supreme Court Justices instead of Kerry.

It wasn't a vote that pout him in office the first time or the second time. The decision had already bin made by big oil.

What you have here is a type of brainwashing. The media is selective in what they put out. They will lead you to believe Bush is through and no one likes him when in fact he is still liked by the majority of people... The vote doesn't lie and if we were to vote today he would win again!
