what precautions can i take to avoid this violence?

my very small and very safe college has recently reported that a young woman was robbed at gunpoint. it's such a shock. what can i do? pepper spray would be nice, but wouldnt it just aggrevate the attacker more? what if he shot me as i was reaching for the spray? is it a good idea to fight back someone who has a gun? what precautions can i take?

Go online and buy a stun gun. When you are walking around by yourself outside in the dark or something like that, hold your hand in your purse with your finger on the trigger. Either that or don't be stupid and walk around by yourself in the dark or places where others can't see you.

do a self desense course. They teach u to walk with purpose and avoid making urself appear vunerable to attack. If u come under attack, then either make noise and raise public attention or comply with the attackers requests until u can make a run for it. Pepper spray is very effective but u must be trained in correct use as u dont want to be affected by it as well.

1. in the night walk with other people
2. Keep the number of the nearest police van/ police station in your mobile
3. Dont wear lots of jewellery
4. keeping something for defence like your pepper spray is a nice idea
5. report to the ocal police with your student union about your concern, maybe they shud increase the security of the area concerned

I was always told to throw your purse far away and run but not in a straight line. The robber most likely wants your purse so he/she will go after that. By running in a zig zag they're less likely to shoot and hit you, and even less likely to shoot you in a vital organ. Many colleges have emergency points located around the campus, normally identifiable by a little blue light on a blue pole. If you push the button help will arrive at your location.

NEVER think of other things when you are walking alone---keep looking around you, look in window reflections to see who is at a distance, stay focussed and alert.
It's safer not to walk or jog with earphones/ipod on --- you need to stay alert to sounds around you, without distractions.
Be careful using a public phone---look around you as you are talking. Ditto with an ATM.
Don't hold or count money in public.
Don't talk about yourself in public, on a bus, etc. where strangers can hear.
Rapists, attackers, robbers may attack in the morning, too. They also might look quite ordinary.

My recommendation is that you try to only go places with other people as much as possible until the idiot is caught, then at least you have better numbers, but no, when someone has a gun pointed at you, the safest thing to do is whatever you're asked to do.

Have your local Police patrol your area...its their job to protect us.And that is what is wrong with the system no more police walking the beat....Protecting like they us to do..go and get some protection and don't go no were alone..Alone attracts nuts..Put up signs and tell Who ever doing this that they are being watched by all...And if police are seen scoping out things as they should be doing..Then something will get done..God bless you and Merry Christmas...

Take kung fu. It is easy to learn and you will know exactly what to do if someone comes at you with a gun. It's really not that hard to take down someone with a gun as long as you have the experience to do it. If you wanna be able to walk by yourself again you definitely need to take kung fu or another martial art.

There is not a lot.Travel in pairs or group.
The college can be more security minded.Each student could be issued a small remote alarm can be attached on a key chain or their wrist.
when activated it will notify the security office.
