When it comes to pure graphical power, Xbox kills the PS2.
The processor in the xbox was 733mhz, more than double the PS2's processor at 294mhz.
Memory for the Xbox was 64mb DDR sdram, whereas the PS2 uses the much slower 32mb RD ram.
Xbox comes with a built in hard drive to save your games, you have to go out and pay $20 for a memory card for a ps2 or upwards of $100 if you are wanting to get a similar hard drive.
Not only can you save games on the Xbox hard drive, you can rip songs from cds you own and use them to make custom soundtracks for games that you play.
Both systems have DVD players, but the later model Xbox's with the Phillips DVD drive are much better than any others on the market.
Xbox comes with a built in ethernet connection, PS2 you have to go out and pay $25+ for an ethernet adapter and install it yourself.
PS2 does seem to have slightly better games and alot bigger selection though, and thats the main thing it comes down to I think. If you cant find a game to play that you like then whats the point in owning the system?
I love both my ps2 and Xbox but it really comes down to what you are looking for, better looking games or a wider variety of games.
Personally, I like my Xbox for first person shooters like Doom 3 and Halo 2, and I use my PS2 for RPG's and racing games like the Final Fantasy series and Gran Turismo.

XBOX has slightly better graphics and more useless features, but all it really has going for it is the Halo stuff (and I can't stand that anyway). They both have similar third-party support, but PS2 has Guitar Hero, and the latest Final Fantasies. It all depends on your game preference and how much dough you want to shell out.

Not even a contest. The PS2 beats the XBX easily. It's got more games and more exclusive franchises. For that matter, the PS2 is still outselling the new consoles.

XBOX 360 has a better resolution than PS3 but on a monitor this does not mean much!!! But PS3 is better choice since ...
XBox 360 does not support titles released for XBOX whereas PS3 supports all titles which are meant for playstation systems. i.e. it is backward compatible!!! Moreover it comes with a Blu-Ray DVD ROM so it's future safe... However PS3 is a bit overpriced... But otherwise ps3 is the best bet!!!
