My dad is a collector so I found him a few semi-related odds and ends on e-bay for his collections. If your dad is into anything in particular, search for it on e-bay or amazon and find something a little obscure. For example, my dad likes classic cars, so I typed in "classic car memoribilia" into the search on e-bay and found an antique metal lunch box with a '57 chevy bel air on it, the lunch box came out in '61 so it's a collectable too.
This way, you're not doing the generic dad socks and a tie, and you're not coping out on actually finding something for him. I know there's very little time before christmas but if you get something on an auction online for him, you can get a nice card and print out the item you purcahsed and just tell him "santa's running a little behind this year, but it's on the way!!"

Give him a night out with you. Buy a gift certificate to his favorite restaurant and 2 movie tickets, and tell him you'd like to hang with him one evening. If money is a factor, then make him a yummy dinner and rent a dvd to watch .... or do some other activity you both enjoy. Time together is the most valuable gift!

My dad is always the hardest person for me to shop for. If all else fails buy him a gift certificate for something he likes (Like books, dvds, etc.). Or just pick one of those things out for him, if you know the sortof things he likes. A genre of movie he enjoys. Maybe some music, a calender. Or the age old fall back, the tie. Happy holidays.

Buy him a health club membership. I did that for my father and mother.and there much healthier and happier. and if you also get one for yourself, its a great way to visit with them as you all enjoy the spa.make sure the spa has a pool. and steam room. if not that. how about a family portrait, Merry Christmas.

How about a book or magazine subscription. If all else fails, just get a gift card to his favorite mall.
