Depends on the state. It also depends on if anything in the divorce is contested by the other party.
It also depends on if your soon-to-be ex keeps dragging it on and delaying the process for no reason what-so-ever. Mine took a year, almost to the day.

Depends on your state. In Kentucky you must wait 60 days after you separate to file, and them it takes a couple weeks for the paper work to flow throught the system. If one person fights the divorce or the settlement agreement it could take months or years. If you have agreed on the terms, them ask your lawyer or call the court house where you filed or are going to file.

If you have children, or personal property, or a lot of debts that you need to negotiate, it could take a long time. If you don't have too much it could be a lot shorter. My husband filed in December of 2004, I didn't contest it and the papers were signed the end of March 2005.
No matter what, it is a difficult thing to go through...especially if you have been married a long time. Hang in there.

That depends on what happens after they are filed. If you file papers and someone contests it then it will take some time to get everything "ironed" out. You will have to go to court, if there is child support/custody issues they will have to be taken care of first, there is property division and division of the marriage assets. There is income to be assessed. It could take 6 months, or it could take 6 years.

There are few things that determine the length of time. Are there any kids involved? Alot of states require parenting classes before the judge will sign off. Is it contested or uncontested? And it all depends on the state you are in. In Alabama, it takes 6 weeks or less from the time it is filed till the time it is finalized, as long as it isn't contested.
