Basically 3G is like broadband for your phone, PDA, or laptop (384kbps for mobile systems and 2Mbps for stationary systems) . The only problem is that it is not available everywhere. So first thing I would do i make sure your mobile device is 3G capable, and secondly make sure you will have good coverage in your area. Also I speak from experience, if you order MEdia Net get the unlimited package. Cingular has no mercy on those with overage charges.

If you're working with Cingular's 3G UMTS system, as Blink said...it's basically mobile broadband for standard handset, PDA, and WiFi devices.

The towers for 3G aren't 100% built yet, especially along the northeastern states. West coast, midwest, and southern coasts you should be fine....northwest, eh..it depends where you are.

Now, these are the current Cingular 3G devices :
1- LG's CU500
2- Samsung's A707 (SYNC)
3- Samsung's ZX10
4- LG's CU400
5- HTC's 8525 PDA

and they're soon releasing the first Nokia 'n series' 3G phone onto US markets with the N73 in 2007 sometime.
