Instead of cycling with fish, why not try a fishless cycle instead? You won't be subjecting any fish to the harmful ammonia and nitrite spikes, nor will you be causing any permanent damage to your fish from the spikes. It takes as much time to cycle without fish as it does with fish. Read more here: http://www.flippersandfins.net/CyclingFishless.htm

Be forewarned that you need absolutely pristine water to successfully keep ghost knives - any spikes of ammonia or nitrites, or if your nitrates get too high, he's going to be one of the first fish to show signs of distress.

Eventually, yes, the ghost may eat the platies if, for some reason, they don't swim away quick enough. But I would not count on a single ghost eating multiple platies. I imagine the platies would have time to reproduce (being that they are prolific breeders, and livebearers at that) before the ghost could eat all of them.

It will eat them. I hope you have another tank ready for the knife in a couple of months. You do know they grow well over 2 feet right? They need a 125 gallon tank bare minumim for 1 black ghost knife all alone.

discus are georgous- yet very costly. there are maximum of mind-blowing thoughts i'm no longer able to record all of them - do you have any form of fish you like the main? Or what you like in them? (ex. energetic, interesting, colourful, etc...) Edit: i in my opinion like the placed up somebody reported approximately breeding endangered fish- thats an remarkable part of do. some cool semi to aggressive fish are oscars, bichirs, jack dempsy's, flowerhorns, and an excellent form of greater which i'm no longer able to think of of off hand. in case you like larger fish then you certainly could in maximum situations in basic terms have the skill to bypass with a pair.
