This is my first winter formal, and we're a bit short on money, so I was wondering where a good place to get a cheap dress was. I have olive skin, dark brown eyes and medium dark brown/reddish hair. I'm about 5', maybe a little shorter, so I was hoping for suggestions on color and style.

Watch ads in the paper, when there is a sale go and check it out or go to a second hand store, lots of people take dresses there, not goodwill a second hand store is different.

Red would be gorgeous on you - I wear a lot of formals. I like the following stores for great deals on dresses that always get compliments - Ross, TJ Maxx and Rainbow.

often times, you can go to bridal shops and look at their bridesmaid dress clearance racks. Because wedding parties order 3 or more dresses usually, they often have spares, extras, floor models on sale. Ross, TJ maxx, and sears also have good dress sale racks.

I would definitely reccomend Forever 21 (www.forever21.com).
It has both formal and casual dresses, almost all of them under $30. For color and style, I think you should probably go with black/cream. Halter tops and empire waists are flattering on almost all figures, and extremely pretty.
