Well I just moved to Georgia and I am trying to figure it out still. It seems so different from back home in California. Can someone tell me how it really is and what I should expect?

The south is very different from the West coast in many ways, My wife is from GA. I'm from the midwest, but lived in CA too. but the south has no corner on the market of racism.

CA has plenty too. GA is perhaps the most progressive of all the Deep South. Other than some accent, It's really no different there anymore.

Give it a FAIR chance.

You'll like the laws there better (fewer of them) unless you like a law for everything like CA seems to any more.

San Diego art nut has summed it up nicely and accurately, I think>

Good luck, always tough to re-locate

Well yeah there's racism in the south just like there is anywhere else. I live in Little Rock, Arkansas. It is alright here as far as race relations because there are many different races here but when you go to the little small towns that's where you get all the racists. I'm just going to tell you that if you're in a fairly large city in Georgia things will most likely be okay because there's more diversity among the races.

I was born an raised in Los Angeles and moved to Nashville about 15 years ago.

Yes, racism is alive and well in the south, just like it is pretty much everywhere, however; the racial tension in far more palpable here in the south.

I am white and I've had a black boyfriend for the last ten years and we've never had any serious issues here. The worst issue I had was with a black ex-girlfriend of his and after the *** beating I gave her, we haven't heard from her since.

Be yourself. Live your life. Love whom YOU choose. You'll be just fine.

Of course there is racism in the South.I'm from North Carolina, and even though the South may have a little more, racism is everywhere. Many think that just because we're from the South that we're all racist hicks.Just about everyone has their own prejudice, whether they realize it or not. It's just the way of life today. It's not just us Southerners;)

I am in Va, and there is still some racism depending on which part you go to. Poqouson is very Racist. Most blacks don't even live there and there is rumor to be Nazis and KKK in Va as well. the there is the economic factor. Most blacks like me have a degree, but you find them working in factories down here. It's sad, but you have good parts. As far as Georgia goes...I hear it is called the "Black Mecca" for a reason. You'll be fine.

I live in Georgia, I don't think that there is that much racism. Everyone generally gets along, but I'm just one point of view.

I lived in NY & just moved to the South 2 years ago. I have not seen it here at all. There are alot of mixed neighborhoods here, where as in NY it was white or black. In my opinion it's harder for kids to grow up racist if they live near & go to school with people that are of different color, religion etc.

I am in NC and there is a lot of racism in my town. Huge divide that is very obvious to those moving in from other areas. Just depends on where you are moving. Different in all areas.
