I am guessing from what you wrote that your daughter does not have visitation with her children alone and that is why your ex son-in-law has stayed during this visitation period.
Suicide is a scarey avenue. The fact that your daughter is bringing this up is due to her utter frustration with the situation. Ask her to please place that energy into finding the right attorney for her.
Can you talk to your daughter to reassure her that there are many lawyerfish in the sea and after the holidays you can both start on finding the right person for the job. But right now it's important to be sure the kids have a nice/calm holiday. I would keep alcohol to the bare minimum too, being that tempers are flaring already.
As far as you being the grandparent, many states have "grandparents rights" that you can go to court for so that you can be awarded visitation times with your grandchildren too.

Okay, first of all if your daughter want s to get her children back she has to stop thinking about suicide. If she keeps on with the suicide idea she will never get her children back in return she might be taken into a hospitol or one of those places. Anyways, her ex can use that as an excuse so she wont get the children. I don't want to scare you or make your christmass worse. I think you should fire your lawyer and get someone else. Second of all sit down with your daugther and tell her you are with her and come up with some goals for New Year's like getting her children back. Anyways talk to her ex don't get him angry just like a regular talk tos ee if you cana spend a peaceful christmass. Anyways just because he is Indian, he wont get any priority. Try to keep your daughter strong. I don't understand why your grandchildren were taking away from your daughter, most of the time the children will go to the mother. So if you can please give soem more info. I or someone else might be able to give you help. Hope everything works out Merry Christmass and Happy New Years.

you need to get another lawyer. you need to go to your daughter and talk to her and let her know you are there for her. you say you know she wont kill her self but when a person is hurting so bad they will do anything to get out of the hurt. you need to let her know that she need to be there for her children. let her know that suicide wont help the kids. go find another lawyer that will do something. good luck
