Word or Internet?
In Word, did you click the "maximize" button? (The square at the top-right of the window, between the hyphen and X.)
When the document is open, have you clicked the zoom button on the toolbar to increase percentage of zoom? There is an option for "page width" which sounds like what you are looking for.
Look for "percentage" (75%, 50%, whatever) with a down arrow on the Standard toolbar. Click the down arrow and select page width.

Click on the outer edges and drag it to full size. It should stay.
