Why does Iran need nuclear power if they are sitting on all that oil?

I would first like to remind some of the users here that Iran is NOT an Arab country, Muslim yes, but far from being Arab.
I personally believe that Iran is going after nuclear weapons. There might be some truth to their claim that they want to generate power. That would be better than using up their oil for electricity.
Never the less, the truth is that the Iranian regime is out to get nuclear weapons and i would say mostly for defensive reasons, as a deterent against outside attack. I say this and i am no fan of the rulers of Iran.
Pakistan, right on Iran's eastern borders is a recognized nuclear power, and so is India just beyond that. To the north of Iran is Russia and its tremendous nuclear arsenal. To the west a little ways is Israel, which pretty much everyone recognizes as possesing a large nuclear arsenal.
Faced with this, Iran asks, why the hell shouldn't we have nuclear weapons too? Looking at this picture myself, i cannot give a real reason why not, without delving into talk about religion, terrorism and so forth.
Look at North Korea, we are pretty much certain that it is a nuclear power now, but no one dares to attack it because of this because we are uncertain of the response (Yes, i know that China protects it as well, to a certain extent).
It is logical to assume that Iran needs this nuclear protection as well. Iran is allowing the situation in Iraq to become worse so that the US becomes too busy there to do anything about the Iranian nuclear program. Iran is stalling and doing anything to waste time until it reaches it nuclear weapons. When that happens it will be too late to do anything. The world knows this and is racing to derail Iran, but the Iranian strategy of keeping all US efforts and energies bleeding in Iraq seems to be working; Everying is talking about Iraq, not Iran.
So in short, generating nuclear energy makes alot more sense than using up oil reserves, even for an oil rich country like Iran, but that it not why Iran wants nuclear power, it wants it because it wants a nuclear bomb, plain and simple.

All that oil will be finished soon.I am not saying that Iran (or any other country) should have nuclear power..All those billions of dollar that my country has used for building nuclear facilities should have been spent in better and safer ways,if its only energy that the government is after.But to be honest,i think its the bomb the regime wants.Unfortunately because of propaganda in Iranian media so many people here think that we should have nuclear power(not the bomb).And please notice this regime is hated by at least 70% of the population.

Personally I believe that is not necessarily my business why they want nuclear power plants. If they are operating within the guidelines of the treaties they have signed. They probably have a better record than we do on this. How many treaties has the President pulled us out of, ignored or broken?

The administration wants Iran and Syria both not for what they do or have done, they want them because they refuse to fall in line and listen to the big bully of the world. Oh and gee the oil what a bonus!
