I'm a Filipino who got married to an American in 2003. After 10 days he left, promising that he would fix up our papers so we could be together. Immigration said there were problems on his side thus he needs to settle it first and eventually his mom died. Last thing I heard from him was that he was sending me $1,000 and after that I couldnt find him anywhere. He has not contacted me anymore nor has he given me any info where to find him since. I've accepted he's abandoned me, now I want to be legally free.

I'm sorry. You should contact an international lawyer.

Besides that, if he is a military guy, chances are you can get him in trouble.

Well, lacking information on your location (the Philippines o US or elsewhere) or your citizenship poses problems.

If you're in the US and a US citizen or have a valid visa, you need to go to court to have your marriage annulled... there is no point in trying to get a divorce as the other person is unavailable. And from what you've described you certainly sound like you qualify for an annulment.

You should be able to do the same in the Philippines.

This may cost you some money - but with the annulment complete - the marriage never existed, and you can get on with your life.

First contact a lawyer, because in some states that after 2 years, it is a no fault divorce and you can be divorced on abandonment...your husband really does not have to be present...and they can find him if needed.

International divorces are tough. Under US law you will need to have him personally served to have the divorce final. I would assume the same is true there. Thus, the first step is to locate him, see if he will agree to the proceedings and, if he does, it hopefully will be much more simple.

You dont state if you are in the USA or still in the Phillipines
If you are still in the Phillipines- go see the american consulate and they will have to track down your husband and documentation.
If you are in America, get an attorney.
