The best excuse is to tell the reason your were late..in other words tell the truth. It's not what you want to hear...but it the right thing to do..for every minute you're late your parents are worrying about you.its not Fair to them ..if you have an issue with your curfew time tell your parents you want to talk about it with them...then ask them to just listen before they respond . perhaps they'll be willing to change the curfew when it a special event etc,...one thing is for certain if you start lying to them your relationship is going to go down hill fast. in any relationship once trust is broken there is alot of pain. think about this --- what , why are you actually wanting to stay out later ? if the answer is to do something that can potentially get you in trouble & or ruin your future & cause pain to your family you've got the perfect EXCUSE to tell your freinds....so that you don't have to give into peer pressure...tell them my parents are strict, they make the rules and I have to respect & obey them ....many who are older than you have survived having curfews we didn't like or necessarily agree with...good luck....

I always used to say that I had to take someone home first.

Also, that you stopped for something to eat because so-and-so was hungry, or had to use the restroom and you wanted to find a well-lit service station because the first one you pulled up to was scary looking.

You took the wrong highway exit and it took you a little while to get back on the road.

The event went later than you thought.

THEN do some kind of chore before you go to bed, LoL

You were at the library
You were so into your book that you hadn't realized that the library had closed.
You panicked.... you ran all over the library looking for someone or for some way out.
But there was no one and no way out.
Then you remembered Oh no! Mom wants you home by 9 and it is now 9:15.
SO you huffed, and you puffed and you blew the library doors down and ran home as fast as your little legs could carry you.

or say you fell asleep at your friend's house.

I used the 'I lost track of time' excuse a few times...

If you always have an excuse, your parents can use that by saying 'but you always have an excuse... so no, you can't go out.'
Grow up a little, realize your parents will give you some more freedom if you can prove you deserve it... and do that by not having excuses.

Back in my teenage days, I could have wrote a book, I had so many. I remember one that worked once, but I was only about 1 hour late. I set my watch behind and showed my mom as I tried to explain that I wasn't that late! I would also hurry in and change the clock in the family room!

Say that your friends grandma picked you up.
And you know how grandmas are... hardly can see over the steering wheel! Say she was driving her regular granny speed (( about 4 mph )) And then she broke out in show tunes and got distracted because she was getting her groove thing on. So your friend had to take over the wheel and the rest is history! Because your home now and that's all that counts!

The best thing to do is to not give an excuse. Simply giveum the puppy dog look, drop your head, and say "sorry I'm late" Works everytime.

Even though you don't have a car, you could say your friend's car broke down. Or the public transportation broke down, if you take that.

I couldn't find a ride.
or
I lost track of time. Im so sorry.
or
Act like you went to eat somewhere thats open 24hrs and say they were really busy and it took a long time for the food.

always apologize. never argue. take it. they'll respect that.
