Many Democrats in positions of power are indeed aging hippies. They were the idealistic kids in the sixties who were marching in the streets protesting Viet Nam, smoking dope, advocates for free-love, etc. Now they are in positions of power, but they haven't matured philosophically beyond those early years.

you're very young aren't you!!! Some Democrats are hippies and Some hippies are indeed Democrats. I don't know what you mean by "hippies?"that was a sixties term. If you mean by "hippies , people who think individuals, not corporations, should have the protection of our government, if you think "hippies" want all Americans to have health care, if you think "hippies"are against downsizing and de-unionizing America back to the 19th century, if you think "hippies" are against rich people circumventing the legal system, then yes "hippies" might be Democrats. I think that Mommy and Daddy have brainwashed you, but have a nice holiday, anyway

No. Democrats aren't hippies. Democrats are blue-collar workers trying to make a living in this country and keep on getting slapped down by the Republicans. I would have to say that approximately 67% of your Democrats merged out of the late 60s early 70s liberal, fun loving, flower children. Their views have drastically changed. 50% of these democrats either became main stream or leaning towards being conservative. Look at them: Bill Clinton, Al Gore, Rod Blagoavich. Then you have the real liberals: Nancy Pelosi. But let's go to the other end: Hillary Rodham Clinton, Evan Byah. Just because the Democrats are for the working class, doesn't mean that they are hippies. They care and they work for us.

No. Hippies were part of a neo-romanticist movement; a largely apolitical and bizarre and drugged out alliance of anarchists and socialists. Most of them grew up and became capitalists.
Democrats are an uneasy alliance between liberal Americans and conservative socialists. So far the socialists are in control.
Republicans are an uneasy alliance between Evangelicals, Regan conservatives, Goldwater conservatives, global capitalists and WUKA (what used to be known as) Democrats. So far the WUKAs have been controlling congress all this time. At least until next month when the far leftists take over.
Me, I'm a registered Libertarian, but I hate toll roads, so I'm really in a fix.
Short answer: the major political parties are about as relevant as is the United Nations.

That depends on what things you are referring to when you call them hippies. First, the term "hippie" is from the 60s and 70s and can not really be applied to most people in today's society except for the most extreme of liberals who are also peace-loving pot-smokers. You are entitled to think what you want, but keep in mind that not everyone shares a Republican view on things and it would be far more beneficial if everyone tried to meet things in the middle instead of polarizing because all it does it slow down the process of getting things done and tends to add layers of complications to otherwise uncomplicated matters.
Believe what you want, but realize that people may think something derogatory of you.
Despite that, just because you think someone is something, doesn't mean that they are, or that you are even aware of the correct usage of the word you are using.

Yes, those crazy hippies in the 60s were talking energy dependence & such things way back then. If they had their way, we wouldn't need to be at war or dependent on unstable nations for energy!

Tee Hee,nobodys gonna really understand you but I do 'cause I lived in that generation and yes they are trying really hard to relive the sixties and all we got from that was a really bad drug problem,by the way I do look like my avatar,ponytail and all and I'm a died in the wool Ditto-head,so peace love ,hare khrishna...and Rush is right!
