I love David Sedaris. He has such great sense of humor and a great narrative voice ( not his actually voice of course because it's funny...) Anyhow, yes, it would make a great gift ( and I agree with the "unless she hates homosexuals" part). I'd also recommend " Dress Your Family in Corduroy & Denim" by him also.
Oh, and as a holiday thing, he has a book called " Holiday on Ice". It's super appropriate for the season.

You have to read Sedaris's books cos they are hilarious... just like Augusten Burroughs's. Yes, the author is gay but who cares, right?? I mean, everyone loves "Running with Scissors" and Annette Bening received a Golden Globe nomination for best actress in the movie version... so I'm sure you'll enjoy Sedaris. I know for a fact that renowned interior decorator from the Oprah show, Nate Berkus, reads Sedaris's books.

David Sedaris is hilarious and "me Talk Pretty' is one of the better books he's got out there. I also recommend Dress you amily in demin and Corduroy" I think if this older woman is not offended by references to drugs and homosexuality she'll be ok.

I haven't had/made time to read it all, though I've skimmed a couple of sections. It looks very good, and as long as your female friend has no problems with Sedaris being gay, she should enjoy it. The guy's funny.

You lucked out. This is one of his better books. It follow's David's life from early childhood (he had a lisp so he expanded his vocabulary to avoid the "S" sound) to his life in France where he spoke very garbled French and learned that a bell delivered Christmas presents. Very, very funny. The only problem that an older lady might have with it is that David is gay and his boyfriend is in the novel too. However, I don't remember any racy or offensive material that would turn off a mainstream audience.

I LOVE that book!! So, yes, I have read it. And I think anyone with a good sense of humor would love it. Unless she hates homosexuals...since the author is gay. But other than that, yeah she'll love it.

I haven't, but thank you for the review on it. I am always looking for a good read. So many to choose from, that someone else's opinion helps.
