It has its own unique taste. Its not steak but not really gamey either. its very lean so if he overcooks it at all it wont be so good. when done properly, it is great stuff

It has a very similar taste to extremely lean beef, but has a hint of its own flavor. I cooked some in a pasta sauce for my room mate and he could not tell the difference. The difference is only noticeable when it is eaten as a steak without much sauce. There is quite a noticeable difference in fat content though. Elk is very lean and so it tends to cook much faster as well.

Elk is gamey, but not as bad as Deer... Anyways, if you wanna get rid of the gamey taste, soak it in milk for a couple hours before you cook it...

Elk sort of tastes like steak... but really, its very different, and very good. Bison/Buffalo is the one that tastes more like steak.

I wouldn't worry about it, I haven't met anyone yet who really disliked it... and there's always barbeque sauce...

And if he hadn't warned you in advance, you might not have noticed a real difference...

So, I guess you should try it and go from there...

It does have a wild taste. If you cook it in the oven, put in a couple carrots with it. they take out some of the wild taste. It should taste great on the grill.

Elk, like Moose, has it's own taste..but it is not that gamey..just a little greasy.

It's got a darker, leaner taste to it. I would be careful not to overcook it, but it tastes great especially if cut up, marinated, and made into finger steaks.
