When I am connected to the internet, every ten minutes or so, a "flurry" of messages pops up, saying that they have scanned and blocked an email, in such numbers that I have to disconnect from the internet just to take time to close them all. They are from our security software, I think- Symantic, I think? It does not seem to matter what website or program I'm running at the time.
Also, I don't know if this is related or not, but about three days ago, my homepage switched to Google and would not switch back to yahoo, even when I reset in in "internet options".
Has anyone ever had any similar experience, and if so, what did you do to fix it? Please, I'm DESPERATE.
(No new programs or websites have been accessed recently to my knowledge.)

Your computer is now likely "owned" and is being used by the organized internet crime gangs to send out thousands of spam e mails a day without you doing a thing.

Your computer is now part of a "botnet" (I'll let you google that word).

Chances are your computer is severely infected and needs to be cleaned up. Something seems to have slipped past your Symantic anti-virus. Your Symantic is current and up-to-date with the latest virus signature definitions, isn't it???

Anyway to clean and dis-infect your computer for free, do all these:

1. Scan for virus and remove (free online scan, no download) with BitDefender

http://www.bitdefender.com/site/home/

2. Scan for trojans and remove (free online scan, no download) with Ewido

http://www.ewido.net/en/

3. Scan for ad / spyware and remove (free download) with Spybot Search & Destroy

Good luck.

1 Disable all e-mail programs such as OE Outlook from the Task bar.
2 Disable your firewall ( Norton) from scanning emails
3. ( In IE7 web Browser select the POP up blocker option.
4.Use any spy ware program
5.Now restore email Norton programs
6. Connect to Internet
Hope this works !
Para two : For Home page :
Open Yahoo web page. Now click Internet options and select Make current page as Home page.

It sounds like you have been infested with a virus that is trying to send out email which is getting blocked by Symantec.

You can install some anti-virus software, the best free one is AVG:

If that doesn't do it, you will have to re-install your OS. It takes about a day, but it is the best way to clean up a slow or crashing computer. Make sure and back up any files you want to save before you do this, though.

You most likely have a worm.
Check that your anti-virus software is up to date and then run a full scan of your computer. It should find and remove the worm for you.
