I need to glue a poster onto a piece of plywood and then I would like to cover the poster with some kind of clear covering that I can brush or spray on. The finish needs to be nice and smooth. This is for a game called corn hole. Any ideas would be great.

if you want it to be really smooth get the birch faced plywood thats meant for cabinet doors they sell it at lowes and so on, not cheap but its worth it for something really special, put it on with spray glue so that you can make the surface tacky and then unroll the picture onto the wood and press down, then get something from a real craft store like Michaels or hobby lobby, thats called 50 coat. you need to put down plastic on the garage floor or something, then put the item to be coated on some sort of stand that has all the edges free, and it must be totally level, then you mix and pour this coating on, it takes several hours to set up but its like glass. or you could actually cover the poster with glass or plexiglass too. wishing you the best of luck.

Since the surface has to be perfectly smooth, have you considered using fomcore board? If you insist on plywood you must make sure it is sanded absolutely smooth. Use spray glue to attach the poster to the wood. This would be the same glue to use to attach it to fomcare board. There is spray polyurethane to cover the front of the poster, or you could use a product called Modge Podge. It's available in craft stores.

At some craft stores like Craft Warehouse, or Jo-Anns Fabrics they sell glue that is supposed to glue puzzles together when your finished, It goes on clear and is pretty strong, I'd try that.
Good luck!

Goop is a super strong glue that is sold at Home Depot etc... although it sounds like Elmers may do the job here. It sounds like you may need to have the poster laminated at an office supply store. I'm not sure they do large sizes though.

A few tips: Just to be certain that you don't have the black paint mixing with your decoupage mixture, you might want to go ahead and apply a layer of the mixture, allow it to dry, then apply your picture. You'll need a paintbrush that is fairly sturdy, you don't want bristles sticking to the surface of your image. I use Mod Podge for my decoupage projects, and it works really well. But beware that it does add some shine to the surface. If you want a more matted texture, then you might just mix regular paper glue with water.
