Mount Desert Island, which is home to most of Acadia National Park. If you go in September, you won't have to fight the crowds in Bar Harbor.
The Camden Hills area is a nice alternative to Mount Desert Island.
You might also consider the Moosehead Lake region and Baxter State Park.

Moose head or Sebago Lakes, down interior the Portland section, previous Orchard sea coast, or York. I also went to Boothbay Harbor beforehand. yet, Bar Harbor is unquestionably the superb position. there is plenty to do and Acadia NP is ideal there.
