Denver, Colorado (my hometown) has been in the national spotlight recently with our big blizzard (my suburb got 32 inches!!). I'm just curious what other people imagine Denver to be like. Or, if you've been before, what did you think of it?

What do you think of the people, the city, the scenery, the stuff to do? Did you find the city welcoming? Conservative? Cosmopolitan or a bit of a cowtown?

We live in NJ, but have had a second home in Breckenridge for almost 20 years. We try to get up about three times a year, and miss it when we don't get there.

I can tell you best how I feel about Colorado, by relating the following story:
--------------------------------------------
A fellow walked into a church in LA and told the priest that he wanted to talk to God. The priest told the guy that they had a phone that would allow him to speak to God, but that it cost $5000! The guy didn't have $5000 so he left.

Then he walked into a church in NYC and told that priest there that he wanted to talk to God. The priest told the guy that they had a phone that would allow him to speak to God, but that it cost $10,000! The guy didn't have $10,000 so he left.

Then the guy walked into a church in Colorado and told that priest that he wanted to talk to God. The priest told him that they had a phone that would allow him to speak to God, and that it only cost $1.00.

The fellow said to the priest that he didn't understand how that was possible, since the call costs $5000 in LA and $10,000 in NYC.

Here it comes - get ready. . . . . . .

The priest responded to him that in Colorado its a local call!!

You live in one of the most beautiful parts of our country - enjoy it daily!

I have visited Colorado and Denver 4 or 5 times. I have been in Denver for a convention and mostly for the airport, either to arrive or depart from Colorado.

Denver was ok during the convention, but I suspect many Denver residents even feel this way, it's a hopping off point to the mountains and the real beauty of Colorado. It is definitely not a "Cowtown" though. It has a big city feel to it.

There are so many interesting places in Colorado. I once hiked 27 miles one way to Lawn Lake and Crystal Lake in Rocky Mountain National park to see the dam that had failed. Crystal Lake was and is one of the most beautiful scenes I have seen anywhere, seemingly cut right into the side of a mountain.

The Million Dollar Highway between Silverton and Derango was awesome. The ski resorts along I-70 were fun and beautiful even during the summer.

Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs, again awesome. Aspen is also very nice place.

Colorado isn't my favorite place in the world but it certainly beats Houston!
