Some of the poorest countries in the world have the highest birth rates, e.g certain parts of Africa. Do you think it is partly their own fault for the increasing poverty? I know that they may not have access to contraception, but once they have one baby, do you think they should be more responsible and make an effort not to have anymore for their own sake and their childrens sake. You see so many babies dieing in parts of Africa and mothers with a lot of children, it makes me so sad. I just dont know why they cant stop after one. What is more important sex, or having food to survive???

Certain cultural practices do increase poverty. To some extent, poverty is related to the behavior of the individuals in the poor culture (so the individuals do share the responsibility for their poverty). Having said that...

A lot of poverty world-wide is actually due to corrupt local governments and due to low-integrity low-work-ethic local cultures.

Having more children is not really a cause of poverty -- in agrarian cultures, additional children can actually provide an increased labor pool (on small farms) and increase the ability of a family to grow more food and develop wealth over time.

In labor-cultures, slightly older children can work and help obtain income for the family (I recognize that we frown on this in the west -- but in many countries people dont have an option).

Also in societies where there is high child-mortality, women will have multiple children in the hope that at least one or two will survive into adulthood.

Cordially,

If contraception is free and easy to obtain, then there is some burden of blame on those in poverty.

However, even in the USA, this isn't true.
Not all women can be on the birth control pill or hormonal contraception-- and the IUD isn't prescribed with an frequency.

Some men refuse to wear condoms because they hate the feeling... and there are alot of complex issues with that (I think we need to teach self esteem and "no love without a glove" mentality)... Latex is also a highly allergenic material (more people are allergic to it than any manmade material).

I am more inclined to think that increasing poverty is the "fault" of corrupt government, ignorant populations, narrow minds unwilling to change old ways, and the interaction of MANY factors and natural events...

... but that being said, I can see what you're saying!

Yes but it's hard to compare the culture of America and planning for pregnancies with the family structure of sub saharan Africa. Many children still die in childbirth (along with the mother) and many never make it to adulthood. This isn't due to lack of food, though it does have a part.
Many children are AIDS orphans and the unstable governments and tribal violence often puts many people's lives in danger before they even reach adulthood so making sure they have enough money to support their children isn't one of their first concerns.
Also, rape is still very common and in some parts accepted. Many women are burdened with pregnancies forced upon them.

If the catholic church would stop being so irresponsible in africa more people would use contraception and the birth rate would drop.

However, your question doesn't hold any substance because, again due to the catholic church, the death rate is high because of AIDS.

Wow, sounds like you figured out how to solve the whole problem. I suggest you charter a flight to Africa TODAY and begin teaching them your better way. Tell them it is there fault, and I am sure they will correct their behavior.

they are the blame they need a goal in life such as getting a job without that they don't think productively. they should be held responsible for the increase in poverty

It would be nice if the women there had any "control" over that. The men their are over-powering, and forceful!!

I understand what you mean, and thats why they have people over their helping the situation, as best as they can. If you would like to go.....and help out, I am sure they need you!!
