Depending on the .avi file itself, you may have to check the codecs that you have. If you have a Divx codec, there shouldn't be a problem burning onto dvd. Nero should automatically convert the file into a readable dvd video file. Just make sure you have the Divx codec.

On Nero startup go to Make Your Own DVD-Video...Then add the file that you have by clicking Add Video Files....Then click Next ....Now you can edit your menu and all that other stuff....At the bottom of the screen it should say More..click it then go to Video options...Then go to DVD-Video..then there should be a Bit Rate Setting..Make it lower..until the Blue status bar reaches under 4.3 GB..hope this helps...but email me if it doesn't work..freestyle_mx03@yahoo.com..

how big is the file
if it is divx, then set Nero to record a Data Disc, your divx player will play the file. do not do Dvd Video, it will convert the file.

you need the DIVX codex for nero to burn divx movies you can find the divx codec at nero or you can get it from places like limewire or you can download any-video converter and change the format of the movie to a pal or other format and then nere will be able to make a dvd also your DVD-R codec might be expired you might try to get one and reinstall it in nere if you don't have one then let me know and I will send you one I also have a divx codec and i will see if i can find it for you my email add is chris37mtx@yahoo.com
