What kind of earring did you have in? The black could be one of two things; either a reaction to the metal (I've actually had metal flake off in the hole-I had to squeeze it like a pimple and pick it out) or just dried blood. If you're not squeamish, I would suggest applying pressure (just like squeezing a pimple) and see what comes out. Clean it well with alcohol (yes it will hurt, but only for a second) and take some Tylenol for the pain. Clean it several times over the next day or two and see if it gets any better. If not, go to the doc's. Don't replace the earring until it's healed. Good Luck!!

buy some earring cleansing solution (you can buy anywhere you can get your ears pierced) and cleanse it well. the earring and the ear. leave all earrings out of it for a few days. i rarely actively clean my piercings and i constantly wear the same earrings. i do, however, take them out every few days and just wiggle the hole around (i know that sounds kind of weird) but it keeps the gunk from building up and you're less likely to get an infection as you have experienced.

You may be alergic to the metal. Try only wearing sterling silver or gold, after you have the infection cleared up.

it's black coz that's the dirt that has been accumulated from sweat, dust and dead skin cells. just get a bottle of methylated spirit and drip some on the infected earhole whenever you're free.. and don't touch it with your fingers
