the Americans didn't join until the end was near???
Do you think they joined so they could share in the victory??

btw, I'm American, and I'm not trying to diss our military, I'm just trying to find out what people think.

okay, sorry, I didn't mean "when the end was near", what I meant was that the wars ended not too long after.

obviously, I'm living proof that a lot of Americans don't know their history very well.

No. In both cases, the allies were taking a beating. We entered out of national interest because the alternatives were unacceptable. Getting in on the victory is a specious statement - the price payed in every way was enormous.

Let's get histroy straight, please.
WWII - started Sept 1, 1939 when Germany officially invade Poland.
December 7, 1941 - Japan attacks Pearl Harbor.
December 8, 1941 - FDR goes to Congress and unaminously votes war against Japan. Germany and Italy follow suit and US is now in the war.
The war ends in September, 1945 with the H-bombing in Japan.
4 years of fighting is the "end" of the war?
Do some studying before making a claim like that.

Many Americans gave their lives fighting in this war.

Incorrect.

WWI we joined after both sides were at a stalemate (trench warfare). After we joined the Germans knew they would most likely lose because of our industrial and material power.

WWII was joined when the Axis countries were at the height of their power. There was no guarantee that we would win the war.

Learn your history.
