This year, I gave cash. That way if the needy has to put gas on to get home, they will have some money in their pocket. I think guys/men like the cash better then the gift card. Times are difficult for many and they Love the Cash .

I think it depends on the person, and the store or restaurant the gift card is from. I like most gift cards ok, as long as its a place that's actually found in the area where I live, and as long as its a place that I'd actually be inclined to visit.

I remember a few years ago my grandparents gave us a Wal-Mart gift cards. I didn't care for that all that much, because I couldn't really find anything at Wal-Mart that I'd want to use my gift card on. There are other places - Best Buy, Borders, or Home Depot where I'd have no problem using up a gift card.

It depends on the person. Certain people can put cash to bad use, while others will spend it on clothes or something they need. A gift card will limit someone's options, but if they really love a store, get them a gift card :)

If you know the person's intrests, a gift card. It's more personal, and you know the gift will get used. If you don't know them very well, then cash. At our mall, you can get a gift card that's good for the whole mall. That would be a fairly safe gift. It's what I'd give if I was giving money, that or movie certificates

I think it's better to give cash because cash can be used for anything while a gift card is only for a certain store or the few stores affiliated with a certain company (example: Old Navy, GAP, Banana Republic).

Depends on the person you are giving it to....

Cash is best as a receiver because you can use it on anything

BUT that has a down side to it, as you don't know if they're buying STUPID stuff with it, and hence if you want to make sure it is used wisely, you can get a Gift Card to a certain place to know it is spent on something "good" rather than junk.

Cash

Cash, bc gift cards are full of dormancy fees, they get lost, sometimes stores (like toys r us) close and there are no conveniently located stores where the receipient lives, some cards expire (yech). Mailing gift cards isn't safe bc if it gets lost in the mail, the thief can still use the gift card. When sending cash, send it registered or buy a money order from your p.o. Gift cards also suck bc you have to use it in one particular store. Somebody gave me a $10 for Macys. Thanks, but you can't get much for $10 there.

Cash is better. If the person get cash from several people they can combine it if they choose but if its gift cards from different places they cannot combine them

Cash is more practical, it can be used for everything, but will probably go for bills or gas. A gift card appears more personal if it is for someplace that they would go to anyways and it allows the person to spoil themselves at a later time.
