credit cards in three different names...some of them in her three former married names and one in her single name before marriage? This woman floats credit and is maxed out. Her last house was forclosed on for nonpayment of 10 months, and then it was dropped and she went out and bought a brand new house and re-furnished the whole house on credit. Can people do this....legally. Now they are buying stocks and lottery tickets. What do you make of this????

This is about a family member and it has quite a domino affect on other members of the family....so that's the reason for my question. Thanks for answering.

As someone else said, she is a financial train wreck. DO NOT lend this person any money. Her creditors will find her and she will pay them back or declare bankruptcy and then come back to you to beg for more money. I know her type because I've had leeches like that before. When they're family members, it can be embarrassing to say no when they ask you for money, but they should be embarrassed for asking you in the first place. If they want money lent, they can go to the bank like anyone else. If you say yes, you will lose the money and regret it the rest of your life. Invest the money instead and live a nice life with your hard-earned money yourself.
You will NEVER get the money back if you lend this woman anything, I guarantee.

It does not sound like anything illegal. Usually lenders have ways of matching up someone with a bureau even if the names used are not always the same. And if someone is commiting fraud it is not likely they have a mortgage, use any of their current or past names, use their current address, etc.
Sorry like the other person said, it probably is not really any of your business. I can see why it might be frustrating to see someone who does is abusing credit and does not appear to be playing by the rules.
I can also say that you most likely do not have all the information related to what is actually happening.

Cristabel......someone is telling you a small lie! NO one can get credit and buy houses and get credit cards in different names......guarantee. She may fool some of the folks but if she is using credit cards of recent issue I will assure you she's doing something illegal. Why I know this is ALL credit is given on your /her/my social security number. You may be worrying about something that - first is causing gray hair and second if she is a sister/sister-in-law.... it's just best to stay out of it. Are we talking about "SMALL TOWN AMERICA"?

She is disaster in the making. Making is not the word, she already is. Plus, yes, it is illegal. I blame the credit companies. They are so eager to lend - they will reap the seed they sow.
She will be in such a credit squeeze and the credit spiral will sink her in deep hole. It is her funeral.
YOU - quit worrying about what someone else does, unless it happens to be your close family like your sister. You care. So, you should show her the right way. Other than that mum is the word. It is N.O.Y.B.
Psssst.........are you jealous or something?

No its not illegal because credit cards are issued by SSN and those at one time have been her legal name. She should update her cards to her new name but not illegal..she is just not very responsible

Sounds like you need to quit worrying about what others have, think, and do, and start thinking more about what you have, think, and do. Her creditors will catch up with her, or not.
