PS3 has a built in wifi or ethernet already.
So, no extra adaptor is needed.
For the 20 GB version you CANNOT go online wireless as it is lacking wifi. So, you will require an ethernet cable to plug to your modem.

For the 60 GB version, you can either plug the ethernet cables or use your wifi to go online wirelessly. (You need a router to do it though).

You can connect via Wi-Fi if you have a wireless router, or you can connect using the ethernet cables if you don't have wireless capabilities.
