This is coming from a Yankees fan, and I'm pretty sure we have the most fans in all of baseball, but they ARE the "Evil Empire".

Probably so, yes, I think more people hate the Yankees than like the Yankees.

With most teams in the Major Leagues, there exists a certain degree of neutrality among fans. For example, I don't "like" the Padres, but I don't "hate" them either (I'm a Met fan). There is far less neutrality about the Yankees, a lot of fans either like them or hate them...

When it comes to the Yankees, because they're so heavily covered by the Media, especially ESPN, fans of most teams have come to hate the Yankees, especially over the last 10 years or so, when (1) they started winning big time and (2) Their games seem to be all over ESPN and FOX.

I know it doesn't seem this way, but these networks are actually limited as to how many games they can televise for any one team in any given season.

But it does seem like ESPN and FOX always bag their limit when it comes to Yankee games. I don't mind myself, because I like watching them play...but fans of about 25 other teams are, I'm sure, sick of the Yankees being on all the time.

They also see New Yorkers as being arrogant about baseball, even though they're really not (New York sportswriters like Mike Lupica are, but fans in general are not, they just love their team, just like fans in any other city).

And there's no doubt that fans in other cities see the Yankees as trying to "buy" championships... they hate when the Yankees sign a good free agent, or make what looks like a good trade, but ignore the fact that their teams do the same thing. For example, Red Sox fans look at Roger Clemens as a traitor for leaving the Red Sox, but on the other hand, they didn't seem to mind when Pedro Martinez was acquired from the Expos in a trade.

Finally, I'm sure some jealousy over 26 world championships certainly exists in the minds of a lot of fans, but on the other hand, 90% of fans don't really have a clue about baseball history anyway...they just know they hate the Yankees....

The Yankees elicit strong emotions from both those who like and dislike the franchise. It's inaccurate to say the reason the Yankees are hated is because of jealousy or envy. Jealousy and envy are born out of a desire to want to be like the thing or person you're jealous or envious of. Speaking for myself, I have no desire to be like the Yankees. I didn't like schoolyard bullies when I was a kid, I don't like power-hungry people as an adult.

As a generalization, their fans don't help either, not that they care. There appears to be a gaping hole in the psyche of their fans that is usually filled by good sportsmanship. Their air of arrogance is really off-putting. Just read the majority of answers from Yankee fans in Yahoo! Answers. I know it's not a scientific survey, but it certainly is telling. Even when their team loses, many of Yankee fans can't bring themselves to credit the other guys. Jealous of that? Want to be like that? No thanks.

To be fair it's true the Yankees play within the rules. Nothing they do is illegal, but whoever says it doesn't harm the sport isn't paying attention. The NFL has dealt with financial parity and they have a terrific product in which it's not the size of the wallet but the abiltiy of the organization which brings success. In the NFL any team can win because they all start on a level playing field (no pun intended). The fact that baseball can't get their finanical act is no fault of the Yankees, but the sport would be better served if things were different.

Amount of fans can depend on success and population. NY is in a metro area, so the Mets and Yankees will probably have more fans than smaller market teams. The Cardinals have a lot of fans (including myself) in St. Louis and in the surround 5 or so states. One reason is that they are successful and that for a long time they were the western and southern most team in the league. I don't care for the Yankees and their "evil empire" although Boston isn't far behind. The Yankees spend $200 million and they can't seem to win a WS. They do well, they just don't quite make it there. Good luck to them, but if I had to pick between loving them and hating them, I hate them. However, since the Cardinals rarely play the Yankees, it doesn't make a big difference to me.

Losers hate winners. There are a lot more losers in the world. I'm a Yankee fan and I love my team. Don't hate anyone. Not even out archrivals. I'd say there are more Yankee haters. I feel sorry for them. Hate is a useless thing. Hurts the hater a lot more than the hatee. Let me say this to the haters, the Yankees have always had money. Anyone with a brain uses all of their resources to get what they want. Why wouldn't a team with money spend it to win? How many teams with high payrolls have had the same success as the Yankees. None. The Yankee teams that won in the late 90's consisted mainly of home grown players. The Yankees always do whatever they need to do to field a competetive team. I try to live the same way. Do what I've got to do to get what I want to get. Watch a winner and learn to be one yourself. I expect the Yankees to win and I expect things to go my way in life. When they don't I can deal with it because I know the next triumph is coming soon. Go Yankees!

Ok Nick, if you had the money the yankees had you wouldn't try to get the most talented players in the game either huh? Look at the players on their team. Jeter, Posada, Rivera, Wang, Cano, Bernie, Proctor, all the guys brought up from their system, now even Pettitte. Jeter, Posada, Rivera, Bernie and Pettitte have all earned the money they make by playing hard and winning championships. And when was the last time Pudge Rodriguez wasn't considered a superstar? To answer the question now, more people hate the yankees then they like them mainly because New York can't out populate the rest of the nation. Although there are Yankees fans out of New York most of them are given sh*t for liking the Yankees and are usually outnumbered in arguement. I know from experience lol.

The only true Yankee haters are Red Sox fans. Sure, many baseball fans don't like the Yankees mainly from envy but the real gutless Yankees haters come from Bean town. We may be the "Evil Empire" but we are the best professional sports franchise in the world.

I would imagine that you have more people that dislike the Yankees than like them based on the fact that there are how many more teams in the league that others are loyal to? Throughout the regular season most people are indifferent about the Yankees because they do not have an effect on them in division play. However, when it comes playoff time, you'll find a lot of people who cheer for whoever the Yankees are playing. Me included. And I'm one of those "indifferent" fans. I just like routing for the little guy I guess.

I dont hate them. Just the Owner. It is not fair that a team with the largest market in the United States can make so much money. Then can spend the money then make which is many times more than the average team. I celebrate everytime they lose in the playoffs. For the Boston fan above, Boston is a mini me to the Yankees. You guys need to look at the CArdinals. They won the World Series with a limited budget. That is the way baseball is supposed to be played.

More people hate them.
I PROUDLY wear my Yankee stuff ( in CA ) and people always yell "Yankees s*ck" or "I hate the Yankees!" when I pass by.
But I've never had a thumbs up or even a nod from another Yankee fan to let me know they're a fan, too.
So I would say more people hate them than love them like I do.

YANKEES RULE ! ! ! ! !
