They were dating for 2 1/2 years, but Joel apparently broke up with Hilary because she refused to have sex with him, as she is waiting for marriage. Joel had been houding Hilary for 6-8 months before they even started going out as he really wanted to date her, but Hilary thought she was too young at the time given that Joel is now 27!! Joel a few days later after the breakup, was seen non-stop with Nicole Richie. When Nicole was arrested, Joel was listed as her emergency contact information, leading everyone to believe, their few day relationship had already become very serious. Hilary now will not return his phone calls (he apparently calls her non-stop). Hilary deserves better and I am not even a fan.

They ended their relationship in mid-november of 2006,supposedly due to their 8 year age difference..(Hilary was 19 and Joel was 27 at when they broke up)
In early december it was reported that Joel is dating Nicole Richie

Sources reckon he broke up with her because she:
a) Didnt want to have sex until marraige
b) Wasn't into the party lifestyle
He is apparently seeing Nicole Richie now
