here in the states we only get to see either the epl, mls or one italian game a week and i love watching the skills of guys like ronaldo, ronaldinho, kaka, robinho, adriano, etc. but none play in the epl and i always wondered why they all seem to do two years in the dutch league and move to either italy or spain, nothing against those two leagues but are they actually better than the epl and the epl is as overrated as the english and usa national teams or is the serie a and la liga the two strongest leagues? i was real curious i just find south american soccer fantastic and i always hear how great the english leagues are but its seems a reoccuring thing with no brazialians

my mistake i was not trying to insinuate that the epl is a weaker or overrated, i was asking for the sake of finding an answer to my main question.

Difference in pace between leagues.
In european leagues the pace is gentler, there's not as much pressuring going on and players are allowed more time on the ball. In the EPL if you dwell on a ball for a second too long you are going get tackled in a big way.
The fact that Vieira seemed out of sorts in the EPL in his last couple of games, slow, rusty and over the hill, then goes over to Serie A and looks a good player again is testimony to this
Language is another factor, but I personally think a lot of the brazilian players will actually struggle when they come to the EPL as they won't have the same amount of time to dwell on balls.
Cristiano Ronaldo was a brilliantly skilled player when he came to the EPL a few seasons ago, but 9/10 his skill and dribbles and tricks got him nowhere. He's now grown both as a player and his understanding of the English league and he's now a much better player all round.

I suspect one of the obvious reasons is the language barrier...Latin languages like Spanish and Italian are easier for Portugese speaking Brazilians to understand quickly...so coming to live in England is scarier for them.
There have bee a few high profile Brazilians at English clubs in the past, but its true not many. Partly, it may be to do with the traditional view of English football in South America..that it is very physical and tough but with not much emphasis on individual skill. This may be true in Brazil, but English football has many Argentinians and players from other South American nations.
The other thing to remember is that currently many, many Brazilians go to play all over Europe simply because the money is far better than at home in Brazil...and not all of them are good enough to get in the Brazilian national team. Just beacause a player comes from Brazil does not automatically make him an all-time great player!!! There are far more average Brazilians than great ones.

usually south americans have to earn european work permit if they are not national players, therefore they would have to play somewhere else in europe like belgian or dutch to earn the permit. the reason why there are more brazilians in spain and italy is because the style of football there is much more suitable for them. not to say they are better leagues, but in their games you can see very much attacking, short passing movements even defenders move up very often and the formations they play usually varies. in epl, however you can only see mostly 442, 532
they attack too, but at the same time they also defend. as the result, usually stronger teams will win. Brazilians love to play attacking and not so good at defending, so usually england is not their favored destination.

I for one think the english league is the best in the world so i dont agree with half your comment. about the brazilians ..there are many factors...1 is the style of play it would take alot more adapting to the english style of play then to the italian and spanish..in England the game is more physical as in harder tackles and more headers and aerial play and long passes less room for their dribbles all those things they like to do and Also the country and the culture many south americans find it hard to adapt in England it's either the weather..the food ...the style of life whatever the reason we've had many players want to leave just because they can't adapt to the country.

There are. Gilberto Silva is at Arsenal. Juninho was a success at Middlesbrough too.
But I guess if you mean attacking people like Ronaldinho and Kaka, maybe they feel that the English game is not really their style. It's preference really. Them South Americans prefer a Latin kind of football which is found in Spain and Italy, which means beautiful attacking. English football is more about being rough and tough.

They first start out in the dutch and/or french leages because they offer better contracts when the brazilian players are still in Brazil. It is like ronaldinho he was first going to go to a big club in spain or italy but he did not accept their contracts because they are too limited. But when the brazilians get good they are offered better contracts by italians and spanish. I think this is because it will be difficult to adapt and because the spanish and italian clubs already have the SEED of brazilian players. Just look at real madrid and barcelona they have like 7 brazilians

simple reason dude...where you gonna place a player like kaka in hmmm let say MANU...
milan plays with 4-3-1-2 formation most of the time...it varies to
4-3-2-1...the '1' you see behind stikrer is Kaka's position...
all epl teams play with 442 or 532 fromation..where you gonna place a player like kaka or ronaldinhio in it ???
yeah adriano and ronaldo can play at epl but just think about it...top stikers in epl..henry,rooney,,drogba...how many times the score with dribbling before shooting the ball..?? they just shoot..no dodgin no dribbling..no creative work with the ball in front of goal..have you watched ronaldo's game when he was in inter..or barcelona ?? awesome...henry cant match him...henry was a flop in serie A...
the most important reason...ofcourse...the style of play plus culture..they foins it wasy to settle in spain esp..
