I use both equally. THD and Lowe's have the same company which supplies Vendor Support. The Vendor Support company does the floor displays, stock resets, and trains staff in the use of tools and conducting DIY seminars.

I myself am a Menards guy unless buying dewalt tools in which it is Home depot. We have a Lowes in our town and it is so outragiously expensive for something its not even funny. Its actually worth the 45 min drive to go to home depot. Lowes is a little more friendly but if you know what your doing go to the depot.

Being a maintenance man my first stop is usually at an ACE hardware.
I find that you just don't get the level of help you would like at Home Depot of Lowes.

Lowes. When I moved a lot of my furniture got beat up. I find the lay out of Lowes and their staff are more welcoming to beginners in repair. It seems a lot eaiser to get "lost" in Lowes because of all the interesting things and ideas.

THD.
Lowes is overpriced and they pretty much just try to imitate everything THD does.
THD is usually bigger and has better products and prices IMO.

HD's isles aren't as big and Lowes nice blue color is more friendly to my eyes. That, and they have a better selection of plants.
