I want to know your thoughts and opinions. What do YOU think needs to be done to cut the amount of welfare the government is handing out to people that abuse the system. The ones that have kid after kid and won't get a job, but will rely upon the government to support them ?

I already have my views on the subject, I just wanted to see others.

if you consider the cost of child care, it is actually more profitable for these single mothers to be on government programs than for them to take an 8 dollar an hour job, (well they should get a better job, go to college) how would they ever pay for that? (well they shouldn't have had children) then why did the president take away funding from birthright and planned pregnancy for the distribution of condoms, wouldn't that have been a cheaper fix, I'm not sure that abstinence education is working. So that's it I think, pay them more money, help them with childcare expenses until their kids are in school, or provide realistic family planning services

The government should do more to help them get out and get a job, even if it's at the local fast food restaurant - something. The reason people on welfare have more kids is because they can collect for every child they have. The government, however, as limited it to just two kids. If those collecting welfare have more than two kids, too bad - they can still only collect for two. They need to be a lot more stricter for those applying for welfare and even for those who are already collecting it. The government needs to do more to get them in the working world instead of letting them sit on their butts and collect. For those who really do need it, ok - those who don't and are well able to work, but abuse the system - well, those are the ones the government needs to deal with.

Well unfortunately doing away with the Welfare system entirely just isn't an option. Things happen and it's good to know that that safety net is there. The problem is as you said the ones who abuse. The best thing yet that has happened is the 5 yr time limit.

As long as there are liberals who feel the government should be totally responsible for the health and welfare of the people, we will have the welfare fraud that we see today. This keeps the people ignorant, uneducated and a slave to the system.

I don't believe welfare to said people needs to be cut back, just distributed in a different form. Perhaps instead of handing them money and food stamps, give them job training, education, perhaps even a job, and gradually cut back the money until they are forced to be self-sufficient. I believe it is the responsibility of the rich to assist the poor, but those who prove to abuse the system need to gradually be weened off it.

I think it should be totally stopped. It was never meant to be a permanant way of life. Government welfare means it comes out of the taxpayers pockets. And I for one am sick of it. Why aren't we taking care of one another????? I mean, families taking care of families...and churches should be more involved as well. I'm not talking about those who already do their fair share. I'm talking about people who turn a blind eye to the needy. etc.

Or......why don't those people on welfare made to put in a certain amount of work each day? Like sweeping the streets, picking up trash, etc.???

The national research council has estimated that the net fiscal cost of illegal immigration ranges from $11 billion to $22 billion a year, with most government expeditures on immigrants comming from state and local coffers, while most taxes paid by immigrants go to the federal treasury, the net deficit is caused by a low level of tax payments by immigrants because they are disproportionally low skilled, thus earn low wages, and a higher rate of consumption of government services, both because of their relative poverty and their higher fertility. The cost of illegals in terms of government expenditures for education, crimminal justice, and emergency medical care are significant. And those figures do not include the stolen ID's,SS cards and other false documented illegal behavior.

The reason that they can have kid after kid is that they have nothing else better to do with their time except to ride on peope like us to fit the bill. I believe that if can walk and talk except if you are disabled, you should be out working. The goverment needs to change and step up to the plate. Every month they whine about unemployment numbers. If they became more stiffer on their rules, They wouldn't have to worry about the numbers anymore.

There will always be adults who abuse the system. The problem is it's the kids that suffer from the abuse. As always...kids first.

those that abuse should be cut off and if unable to support their family, the kids taken away. welfare to corporations and countries is a more expensive problem though.
