In the beginning, just stay with low priced electric strings, as you learn more you will hear from other guitar players which strings are "better", I just sit back and watch when they have a "sale" on the expensive strings, and save money, If you don't know what guage you want, start with regular guage, them try a guage lighter, if not try a guage heavier, until you get the most comfortable for you, you don't have to buy the high-priced strings right now, save money!!

It depends on your playing style, and the type of sound you desire. I you want durable strings get some coated strings such as Elixer. My favorite brand is DiAddario Lites,1st string is .009 and it goes up from there to .046 at the low E.Try checking out some of the guitar magazines to see what types your favorite musicians play. I have a Squire Bass, and use nylon wrapped strings on it, and Martin bronze 60/40 on my Guild acoustic
