That is all part of the con. We vote, so it's by the people now, yet these folks in DC don't seem to care about folks like me making under $40,000 a year. Big business and lobby groups fund many politicians and their endeavors. So right at this time, the US has a Government of Big Business, by Big Business, for Big Business.

The phrase "of, by and for the people" is a refutation of the monarchy that was in place at the time that our country split from England. Our founding fathers decided to set up a republic (a representative democracy) becuase it is much more efficient to have profesional legislators (i.e. congresspeople, house members) who write laws and budget moneys for societal purposes, rather than a pure democracy where everything has to be voted on by everyone. Think about having to read each local, state, and federal government budget and an omnibus of all laws that are possibly implemented by the government, and then having to interprit the numbers and legal speak for EVERY bill. It would be almost a full time job. So we vote for people who do it for us.

There are those who say that the evil corperations rule the world others say that it is politcal parties, still other say it is rich old white men. In reality all systems have corruption, all systems have problems, all systems can be manipulated in one way or another, however compared to a monarchy or theocracy, a representative democracy at least tries to include the voices of those who care enough to make themselves heard.

However less than half the country sees the need to vote. This bespeaks how well our society is going that over half the population thinks that things are going well enough that they do not even need to keep up with politics- the making of rules that civilization is kept under. In Iraq 80% of the people voted (and that was with the threat of suicide bombers and insurgent bullets) becuase their country is in turmoil and the citizenry wants a to set up a functioning government. Our country is run so well that most people do not even see the need to be concerned about it.

It is very easy to think that "the people" are not being represented when your people are not elected. However the system that has been set up in the US constitution with it's check and balances, different braches and levels of government and heirachy of institutions and laws, we are as close as any major civilization in history.

If you are one of those who wants a pure democracy, go look up a copy of the laws for you city, now you county, then your sate and then the nation. Try to figure out how you feel on every one of those. The read the budgets for ALL of those levels of government. Imagine having to do that every year, you would be like a full time job. So as a country we have decided that the best way to split up the work load of running a community to legislators who write and pass laws, exectutives to implement the laws and counts to decide how the laws are followed.

It is very easy to fucus on all problems but if you look at the whole picture, in the context of human civilization we are doing pretty well.

The senate still has the power. We still have the power to decide who goes. Unfortunately, the choices are people that want to be senators and you have to have some agenda to want to put yourself through that and I don't think it is always the peoples best interest. The internet has made it better. At least now you can go see how your representatives are voting and if you disagree, write a letter. I've been happy with the responses I get to letter writing. It makes me feel that at least I am being heard, if not acted on. Merry Christmas to all!.

Why not?
The best kept dirty little secrets of the past dirty old men hidden in their graves over the loss of the missing x-files that was lost with time was expose by little children living in misery exposed in the new millenium in planet of apes.
All the men who would be king have to do is to trace the blunders and slip-ups with human errors in the creation of living human kind into mankind and steer the star-ship back on course in planet of apes.
Unless they want to continue living in misery from self annihilation to self extinction in digging up their own early graves in planet of apes.
As the lyrics says "It's up to you" in planet of apes.
