Someone at one of my message boards called Rosie O'Donnell the above phrase, which a few nasty words added...I want to say something to her that I thought her comment was a slur...

Once a Vancouver sports announcer was talking about hockey (what else do we talk about in Canada) he meant to say The Mighty Ducks, and said "Mighty Dykes" by mistake...he cracked up, and so did the other news people, they had to go to a commerical

Yes. While I have heard 'dyke' used as a derogatory slur by homophobic people AND as a powerful way of reclamation and a term of endearment within the gay community itself, I have never heard a GLBT person use 'bull-dyke', only homophobes and idiots.
I suppose one could use it without it being offensive, but I've never heard it that way. If I wanted to describe the uber-masculinity of some lesbian, I would use something like 'diesel dyke', possibly 'bulldagger' (for some reason, it sounds nicer), or simply as butch.

First I do not believe Rosie is a "Bull-Dyke" she is much to pretty , wears lipstick, and is fashion conscious.
Now this term has about as much certainty as the 'N' word referring to people of dark skin and were not native to the United States. Bull-Dyke is common, but it really depends upon the situation and who is saying it and to whom.
Personally I use "Bull-Dyke" as a derogatory term, but that is me. I also use ***** as a positive term which is defiantly not the norm for my social age.

It's one of those insults reclaimed type things. The history of the word dyke is more complex than that (lesbians claimed it for themselves, then it was an insult, and then it got reclaimed; kind of unusual) but it's still not something you call someone you don't know. ESPECIALLY with the bull added on.

it usually is, because it's usually used by the bigoted trolls in a hateful and insulting context. It all depends on the way in which it is used. most would consider me a "dyke" and I don't find the word offensive in the right context (I wouldn't be considered a "bull-dyke" though).

Most definitely!!
the word is considered crude and pejorative. "Dyke" is a later abbreviation of bulldyke.
Dyke or dike is a slang term for a lesbian. The term is generally used by non-lesbians as a slur to refer to a woman who is aggressive or "butch" or who is hostile toward men. Also known as a masculine lesbian.

Yes, of course it is. Bulls are notoriously ungracious. That's why the saying "a bull in a china shop." Because they wreck things. By saying that, they insinuate a big, ungainly woman with no grace.

Yes, my Dear One, that is indeed a derogatory slur and should be reported as such when used. Blessings.
