you more than likely have a bad distributor in it when these go bad that's it,,they don't start you can have good fire to the e coil but its not going to start, until you replace the distributor ,or put a pick up coil in it ,i have run across this a lot with the rangers ,and some on the explorers here lately,,good luck, hope this help,s.,,have a good x-mas.

Sounds like a distributor, for more information on your Ragner and to see if anyone has had this same problem, go to www.therangestation.com, and see if anyone has solved it. I am a member there and there is a lot of good information, and for the record, FORD TRUCKS ARE THE ONLY TRUCKS WORTH BUYING. I SEE MORE FORD TRUCKS WITH OVER 400 000km THEN ANY OTHER VEHICLE, they last, and for the record, I own a Ranger, but I am a Mopar man at heart. And the 90 and before had a different engine then the 91 and newer. you probably have the 4L

Had the same problem with my 1987 Ranger. Ended up changing the OBC and a fusable link by the solenoid. This fixed it after I changed the distributor module, magnet breaker, coil, wires, etc.

have ya checked the gap on your plugs. roommate had a 92 ranger with the 3.0 v-6,and engine wouldnt start, though everything else was ok.if the gap is too wide it wont get spark in the combustion chamber and you wont start

Check the TFI module (thick film ignition) mounted at the base of the distributor.

Can't be sure about yours but some vehicles have two crank sensors and also a cam sensor on some.

The question is why would you get a ford in the first place, trade it in for a Toyota. Fords are in the past.
