Inner-city ghettoes seem to be even more poverty stricken than some rural areas. Parts of D.C., 5th ward in Houston ... it's a long list.

A lot of the former industrial cities are decaying as a result of the drop in manufacturing... Detroit for example. Going by literacy rates, Louisiana, Mississippi, and South Carolina are near the bottom.

East St. Louis is one of the poorest places in the Nation. I mean just look at all the horrible things that are gongi on there. Check the link i put.

I think the rural South has always been poor, and what is worse, it has a culture of poverty. Newly arrived immigrants from poor countries are poor wherever they end up, but they don't stay poor for generations, nor do they create a culture of poverty.
