I can't afford the time for a vocal teacher. Any suggestion I can train myself at home?

I'm not planning to be a singer that sings for someaudience. I just want to do this for myself. And maybe be better at the kareoke competition...

When I was "teaching" myself to sing I would always practice in a key higher, so when I performed and sang in the normal key, I didn't strain and didn't have trouble hitting the right notes!! But just remember, the vocal cords are a muscle, you can't overdo it because you'll strain them too much!! You have to exercise them the same way a track athlete does his leg muscles!! you have to build them up!! A little at a time is better than a lot at once!!

why would you wanna be a singer if you can't sing? Just do something that you're good on, then you'll succeed.
