I had a pac n play,w/ a bassinet, but rarely used it!The only place both my kids liked to sleep was in their car seat so that's where they slept for the first few months, then they went to the crib w/ no problems!

we used a wicker bassinet from the day our daughter was born until she was 5 weeks old... the past week she has been sleeping with me after her daddy goes to work... just today we finally bought her a convertable crib. If I hadn't of gotten the bassinet at my baby shower we would have started out with a crib since they are a better investment than a bassinet.

My babies went right to the crib. We bought the crib that turns into a toddler bed. Well worth the money. They do look so small in the crib when you bring them home but they grow so fast. The bassinet is a waste of money.

i ABSOLUTELY feel the same as you. a bassinet IS a waste of money. we got a crib. BUT, i also got a pack and play with a bassinet in it. when hes too big for it i can remove it and he can use it as a pack and play (so it will last for at least another 2 years!). my son is only 3 months old. i have the pack in play in our room and he sleeps in that at night (i'm not ready for him to be away from me at night yet, with the SIDS thing and all). and he takes naps in his crib during the day. so when we DO decide to to move him to his nursery, he'll be more accustomed to it. also, the crib i purchased, which wasn't even $200...i think its a rochester (they can be ordered online from almost any store, or if you you have a burlington coat factory near you, they sell them there, which is where we got ours.). but it changes from a crib to a toddler bed to a full size bed. so my son will have the same bed for a very long time. i HATE wasting money when i don't have to! lol. hope that gives you a few ideas!

I am using a bassinet first so I can keep my baby right next to my bed. Then when she gets bigger I will move her to her crib. If you don't want to spend alot of money try checking out a children's resale shop you can sometimes get a bassinet there for around $30 then you can always trade it back for something else.

You can get bassinets off walmart.com for $40 i believe i seen. My twins were in bassinets then cribs, and in my room with me until about 3 months old. I think a bassinet is a good idea, its a smaller area, help them feel more secure. Thats for you to decide though. Your baby would probably be fine in a crib in your room. Good luck.

My son stayed in a travel bassinet that I could fold almost flat when not in use for almost 6 months. I nursed him and he stay in our room. It was great! It had wheels so I could roll it into other rooms, a cloth shelf thing underneath for spit up rags and extra sheets, etc., It was portable for trips to grandma's, and I paid $29.99 at Big Lots for it because I wasn't worried about the color scheme or a theme. I LOVED it!!!! I bought a crib for his room that turned into a toddler bed, but it just seemed WAY too big for him when we brought him home. Babies like to be wrapped tightly and they seem to enjoy the closeness a bassinet provides. The rule of thumb is usually, a baby can stay in a bassinet until they are able to pull themselves up.

I used the pack and play bassinet that comes with the playpen. Then I moved the baby to the crib.

I went with the bassinet because it seemed like thats what everybody does. So i went out and spent 100 bucks on it and my baby absolutely hated it. I think it was because he couldn't see out the side of it. I know babies don't see much at that age, but they do see some movement. So he slept in his crib and I wasted my money on the bassinet. It does seem big but cherish it, because before you know it, your baby will be moving to a todddler bed!

Use a crib, babies can stay in a bassinet only a short time. Don't waste your money.
