Why not just give cash? Do you really think no one can see through your attempt at appearing to be thoughtful?

Merry Christmas, ho ho ho!!!

I prefer the gift card. When I get cash, I have "spenders guilt". As if I should be saving the money for something worthier than the latest DVD box set. Get me a gift card, and I can buy some fun stuff guilt free.

Gift cards allow the recipient to choose his gift, plus if you are thoughtful, you will know where they shop and give them that shop's gift card.

Cash is considered OK for recipients who are much younger than you. It is considered tacky to give cash to equals or people who are older then you--which is why gift cards are a good compormise.

Make sure though that they do not reduce each month you don't use them--some stores are getting very sneaky.

Why should I kill myself trying to figure out what to get someone. I'm simply lazy and buy a gift card - causing me less stress and grief and I don't have to wrap a box. Now only if my wife would follow suit; I've given gift cards before they became this rage that they are today.
