so I just used one of the "first response" home tests, even though i've always viewed home pregnancy tests in a ghetto light(especially the buy one get one free), and I got a nice bright single not-pregnant line. However my last period ran Nov. 13ish-20ish (which was late itself) and today i've yet to see signs of my period. I didn't use morning urine if that really counts (8pm), I drank a lot of water if that counts to make myself pee... and i also tested right after sex because that's when i finally had my privacy. We never use protection because I would actually like to be pregnant.

the test was a little dissapointing, however it came with an extra! (how convenient), does anyone know the best time for me to use it (expensive) and under what conditions.. and if it doesn't work shall I consider something further or call it quits. Does caffeine effect the hcg levels because I drink like 800mg daily... as of late though i've cut down? grrr, so much to consider possibly pregnant

I have been having the same problem with a missing period. If you are as late as you say you are it most likely would have shown up. My doctor said it was normal for women to not have their period for many reasons. She said stress or being under or over wieght can also affect your period. She perscribed me some Provera to start my period. You should see a doctor if the test you take in the morning comes up negative. You could get a bloodtest from her which is much more accurate. Good luck, and I hope it turns out the way you want it too.

In the morning when you urine is more concentrated and when the HCG levels are highest
I don't think the caffeine does affect the levels I drink like 4-5 cups a day ( or I did ) and i still got my negs when they were neg and my most recent positive ( yay, go me)
and I say don't ( force yourself to pee IE drinking alot of fluid you dilute your urine
but you should try to test as soon as you get up like tape it to the toilet bowl lid ....... j/k
and if you are still not sure call to make an appoint with your ob gyn there might be other reasons and they can do yet another Pee test ( same one you used at home ) and maybe a blood test and find out if you have fibroids or something else stopping you from getting your period ....

Good luck !!

Surprisingly, cheap tests purchased at dollar stores or on the Internet are often more sensitive and reliable than expensive store brands. HPT's are like soda: very cheap to make, and marked up quite a bit for retail.

Do I have to test with my first morning urine (FMU)? Not necessarily. In general, FMU is the most concentrated urine of the day and thus more likely to have built up more hCG in it. If you are testing early (before 14 DPO), the HPT is more likely to detect the hCG in your FMU. After 14 DPO there should be enough hCG to be detected at any time of day. Some women have better luck with second morning urine (SMU.) A good rule of thumb: hold your pee for 3-4 hours (and drink as little as possible!) Then pee in a cup. If your urine looks nice and yellow, it's concentrated enough for testing If it looks diluted, dump it and try again later.

Nothing really affects the test, such as caffeine, but it does help to use your first morning urine. When I used the test myself I tested on the day I was supposed to get my period, and I could just barely see a faint second "pregnancy" line. I thought I was imagining it. I waited for 5 more days (excruciating days), and retested. The line was still faint, but it was definitely there. It takes a long time before you get a strong second line, probably a month or more, so give it another week. I know it seems like forever, but it's worth it. You might even get your period and save a test stick.

Well first of all you should not drink anything before you test b/c that dilutes your urine which can effect the levels of HCG, which is the hormore that the test is looking for. It is best to take a test with your first morning urine b/c the HCG has been concentrated in your urine and don't drink anything before you go to bed. If that comes back negative then you can go see your doctor and he or she can give you a blood test which is very accurate. Good luck!

I used the first response a couple days before my missed period and it came back negative. about 4 days later i tested again cuz i still hadn't got my period. I looked at the old test i took a few days back and there was a faint line next to it indicating i was pregnant. I didn't give it enough time to work, but it definitely was accruate!!! nothing can really affect the hcg level. it says that in the directions.

HPTs are ghetto??
I've heard its the best time always in the morning to test (higher HCG levels). Who are you concerned about having privacy from? Parents? The man involved? That doesn't sound...good? I'm not sure about the effects of caffeine on HCG levels but I know its not good during a pregnancy.

i used a home pregnancy test when i found out with both my pregnancies. with my first pregnancy the first test i did said no but after waiting two hours, i did another and it came out positive. come to find out my doctor told me the first test might have said no because i had diuluted my urine by drinking so much water tring to make myself pee.

so when i thought i was pregnant the second time i took his advice and took the test midmorning without drinking alot, and sure enough i was pregnant (with twins)

I think you aresupposed to have morning urine. Also There is more likely to have a false negative one a ucg, esp home than false positive. If it does not work and you still are not seeing signs, you may want to make an apt w/ your dr/ob for a blood test.

you should wait a week then take the other test when you first wake up. if you still don't know try a different brand. I had to use 5 tests 3 brands before I knew for sure.
