George tries to get away with giving away fake donation cards as Christmas gifts at work, and much to his chagrin, his father decides to revive Festivus, a unique holiday he'd invented years earlier. It's in 'The Strike' (season 9) and you can watch it here: http://www.dailymotion.com/flash/flvplayer.swf?rev=1166152697&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.dailymotion.com%2Fget%2F9%2F320x240%2Fflv%2F643195.flv%3Fkey%3Df7fd1259ddb171305affd88f7c0272c1128df27%26log%3D1%26log_blog_key%3D5sg5Nf3QvSfio2Hk7%26log_referer%3Dhttp%253A%252F%252Fwww.download-tv-now.com%252Fseinfeld.html&previewURL=http%3A%2F%2Fstatic.dailymotion.com%2Fdyn%2Fpreview%2F320x240%2F643195.jpg%3F20060910235007&autoStart=0&playerURL=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.dailymotion.com%2Fvideo%2Fxdsaj_seinfeld-166-the-strike-festivus&estatEnabled=1&estatClient=players_dm&estatSection=blog

I don't know if there's a youtube, but the episode is called The Strike. It's pretty good.

But for a basic run-down, Festivus is a holiday celebrating anti-materialistic views on Christmas Eve Eve, aka 12/23. The holiday's dinner includes an airing of grievances, and a "feat of strength" where one partygoer must pin down his host before the party ends. There is also a "Festivus Pole," a pole around which the guests supposedly dance.

Happy Festivus!

Festivus was a holiday created by Georges dad, and ultimately Kramer loves the idea and goes along with it. Georges dad is tired of Christmas and the traditions that go along with it. It was funny on festivus instead of sitting around at the dinner table saying something nice about everyone, say what you really think about them. I liked his motto for festivus too, "Festivus for the restofus!" One of my all-time favorite Seinfeld episodes.

It's not a real holiday....
But......
Life is imitating art.
There was no such thing as the real Maltese Falcon. But the one they created for the movie is now worth multiple millions and sought after by investors and collectors.
The waverunners everyone has nowadays came from a prop created for a James Bond movie. After the movie came out, they started to be built.
There are countless examples of this "Life Imitating Art" phenomenon, and Seinfeld has contributed many examples of this, especially in our colloquialisms. Festivus, as I have been reading online, is this year being celebrated by many people even though it started as a bogus holiday idea on a tv show.
God, we Americans are really dumb.

Georges dad invented it. They put up an aluminum pole instead of a Christmas tree. At dinner, they had "the airing of grievances" to tell everyone how much they've disappointed you over the last year. They followed that up with the feats of strength where George had to pin his dad. Festivus wasn't over until he pinned him.

It was then created for George Costanza after getting in a fight in a toy store when he and another man both grabbed for the last doll in place. Frustrated at the commercialization of Christmas, Constanza says, " Aah Festivus."
