There is nothing written in scripture that specifically addresses masturbation. The only mention of it at all was the scripture that Haven17 mentioned about Onan spilling his seed. The reason it was a sin for him is because he was avoiding doing what he knew was required of him by tradition. When his older brother died, he was supposed to marry his brother's widow. He didn't want to have a child by her because it would be considered (by tradition) to be his brother's, not his.

Although this scripture does not teach against masturbation, it is often misinterpreted as that. No. Masturbation is not a sin.

No it isn't. There is nothing in the Bible forbidding masturbation.

The sin of Onan was not masturbation, but failure to supply a levitical marriage with issue - which was a Hebrew sin, not a Christian one - Christians don't have to marry their dead brother's wife in order to give their sister-in-law children.

Most Christians fail to realize that when reading this extremely brief passage.

Of course not - read the Old Testament and the New Testament and you will find nothing at all against masturbation - what do you think those monks were doing while rewriting the many versions of the bible. Singing. Put on a great song from MEAT HEAD and enjoy

Yes.

Judeo-Christian tradition has taught for thousands of years:
1. Single people should be celibate.
2. Married people should be faithful to each other (adultery is wrong).

The Catholic Church recognizes the power of sex when it teaches, "Sexuality affects all aspects of the human person in the unity of his body and soul."

Chastity means the successful integration of sexuality within the person. A chaste person's body and spirit lives in unity and opposes any behavior that would impair that unity.

Masturbation is contrary to the human dignity of the person and anyone about whom the person has lustful thoughts, and the dignity of human sexuality.

With love in Christ.

Yes and No

It depends on whose definition of sin you use.

The christian god prescribed specific sins in the 10 commandments and as far as that god is concerned those are it. So, unless your version of the commandments is different from mine, masturbation is not a sin.

Now there are people who profess to be good christians who like to believe that all sorts of other things are sins. However, one has to realize they are taking their own personal feelings and beliefs and translating them into sins; often for their own purposes. Like the prohibitions against wearing clothing of mixed fabrics or eatign shellfish. both were defined in the bible as abominations yet neither are sins in the word of god; only in the word of man. So given that the only opposition to masturbation comes form prudish people, not from yoru christian god, feel free to enjoy your little pleasures except in the presence of so-called christians who have chosen to try to mofdify the word of god to suit their own beliefs rather than taking god at his word and living by god's word alone.

yes it is, I read a book about it, cuz I was worried.
The bible doesn't state it exactly, but it definitely is a sin of lust, and even more when you masturbate thinking of someone else. That's more than just the lust sin. Jesus himself said something about thinking of sleeping with a woman, its a sin even if you don't.
If you want to stop doing it you should ask Jesus to make you stop cuz, I tried on my own and couldn't stop until I asked him for help.

It has to do with a charcter in the Bible known as "Onan" spilling his seed upon the ground. I'm not sure where it is located. Oddly enough there is nothing in the Bilble telling women its a sin to masturbate.

It is not sin if you will do it properly. It is a gift, wherein we can utilized it in a decent manner. Masterbation helps to condition your body and there's no harm even you do it twice or more a day. Ohh yahh.. go ahead and enjoy.

I went to a Catholic school--they were so paranoid about birth control but they didnt talk much about masturbating. Come on, you dont have to tell anyone about it; its natural. Suppressing that desire will most likely have negative effects on you. Most of the people who are ashamed of it either become sex offenders or their obsessions manifest themselves in other disorders.
Anyway, its completely natural, no matter who says they don't do it.

God created everything, right? If masterbation a sin how come this thing got created, or is it a human creation defect. If you don't masterbate, god create wet dream to drain the sperm from your system before the expiry date. So is it still a sin?
